Two Italians Set World Bests at City of Verona Track Meet

Italians Stefano Lambruschini and Ileana Salvador set world bests and hurdler Roger Kingdom earned one of three victories by Americans Tuesday at the City of Verona track and field meet.

Lambruschini won the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 5 minutes, 18.36 seconds, more than six seconds ahead of Belgium’s William Van Dick. Lambruschini broke the mark set by Samson Obwocha of Kenya in 1986 by 1.32 seconds.

Salvador walked two miles in 13:23.04, breaking the previous world best of 13:47.8 set in 1987 by another Italian, Giuliana Salce.

Kingdom won the 110-meter hurdles in 13.245 seconds, beating fellow Americans Renaldo Reinaldo Nehemiah and Eric Cannon.
