Patrick J. Flynn has been appointed managing director of Opera Pacific, effective Oct. 1.

Flynn, former general manager of the Opera Guild Inc. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will oversee Opera Pacific’s day-to-day operations, including marketing, development, financial planning and ticket services. He succeeds Martin Weil, who resigned at the end of May, saying he wanted to spend time with his family.

Opera Pacific, a Costa Mesa-based company with a $4.8-million operating budget this year, will open its 1990 season at the Orange County Performing Arts Center on Jan. 13 with Verdi’s “La Traviata” (through Jan. 20). The season will continue at the Center with Puccini’s “Turandot” (Feb. 16 to March 4), Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” (Feb. 21 to March 3) and Jerome Kern’s “Show Boat” (July 6 to 15).

Glenda Van der Zaag of Laguna Niguel has been appointed executive director of the Laguna Beach Chamber Music Society, officials announced.
