A star Cal State Fullerton wrestler was killed this morning when he was thrown from a motorcycle in an accident near the campus, authorities said.
Erin Luis Millsap, 21, of Simi Valley was pronounced dead at the scene at about 12:12 a.m. Millsap died instantly, said Fullerton Police Sgt. Rex Strickland.
He had been riding on the back of a motorcycle driven by Paul Michael Reutzel, 23, from Diamond Bar, a fellow wrestler and student. Reutzel suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Jude Hospital, where he was reportedly in shock, Strickland said.
Millsap was wearing a helmet, but Reutzel was not.
Reutzel had been driving eastbound on Bastanchury Road down a fairly steep slope when he lost control of his vehicle just east of State College Boulevard, Strickland said. He and Millsap were thrown from the vehicle.
Millsap, a junior at 118 pounds, was in training for a new wrestling season, which was scheduled to begin in November, said Cal State Fullerton wrestling coach Dan Lewis. He had competed in March in the NCAA tournament in Oklahoma City but did not place, Lewis said.
