Racing at Fairplex Park : Comical Wins Feature by Six Lengths
Comical raced to a six-length victory Thursday in the $54,650 Foothill Stakes, the opening-day feature of the Los Angeles County Fair race meeting at Fairplex Park.
Comical, who led the entire race, covered the 6 1/2-furlong distance in 1:16 1/5 to equal the stakes record.
The winner benefited from early troubles of favored Sabulose, who was carried extremely wide on the first turn by Movinglikeawinner, then closed to within two lengths of the leader at the quarter pole.
However, jockey Danny Sorenson asked Comical to pick it up at that point and the California-bred moved away to the easy victory. Sabulose finished second, and Movinglikeawinner was third.
Comical returned $17.40, $5.20 and $4. Sabulose paid $3.60 and $2.40, and Movinglikeawinner returned $4.40.
A crowd of 7,900 fans wagered $1,830,073 on the opening-day program. Including off-track, the totals were 10,632 and $2,376,533.
