SIDELINES : Agassi Signs for Australian Open
Andre Agassi, ranked fifth in the world, will play in his first Australian Open tennis championship in January, tournament officials said today.
Defending champion Ivan Lendl and Wimbledon and U.S. Open champion Boris Becker also have said they will play, as have John McEnroe and former champions Stefan Edberg and Mats Wilander.
Agassi, 19, reached the semifinal of last week’s U.S. Open.
The Australian Open, the first of the four Grand Slam events, will run from Jan. 15 to 28.
