Roundup : Sunny Hills Wins in Water Polo

Mike Thompson scored with 15 seconds left, giving the Sunny Hills High School water polo team an 8-7 victory over El Dorado in a nonleague match Friday at El Dorado.

The Lancers (2-0) led 7-2 midway through the third quarter, but the Golden Hawks (0-1) rallied to tie the score with 2 minutes, 49 seconds left.

Thompson then took a pass in close and scored on a lob at the buzzer.

Thompson and Mark Allmond each scored three goals for the Lancers. Reserve Brad Winters also scored a goal.

Goalie Andrew Tinseth made 11 saves for Sunny Hills.

In other nonleague water polo:

Corona del Mar 11, Foothill 8--Gunner Gustafson had four goals and Brandon Howald three for visiting Corona del Mar (2-0). Foothill is 1-1.

Orange 20, Katella 9--Joel Stewart had six goals and Jarred Salinas had four to lead host Orange (4-2).

In nonleague tennis:

El Modena 12, Bolsa Grande 6--Wendy Deems won, 7-5, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 singles for host El Modena. Deems was down 5-0 in the first set but rallied to win seven consecutive games. El Modena’s three doubles teams also won their matches. Cindy Dang and Linda Mou won, 7-6, 6-1, 6-0; Karen Fortier and Kim Holmes won, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, and Jessica Dula and Shawn Montgomery won, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.

Laguna Beach 18, Santiago 0--Junior Marlies Orchowski swept her sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Laguna Beach (1-1) over visiting Santiago (1-2).

Edison 11, Laguna Hills 7--Visiting Edison (3-1) was led by Teresa Warren and Katie Beard, the No. 1 doubles team, who won their match, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1. Edison’s No. 2 doubles team of Nikki Turner and Laura Olson also swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0.
