Hurricane Hugo could force South Carolina officials to move the Gamecocks’ game with Georgia Tech from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon, Athletic Director King Dixon said today.

A decision is expected sometime on Friday, Dixon said. The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to fly into Columbia at 12:45 p.m. Friday.

“Of course we’d like to play the game as scheduled,” he said during an interview today. “But our first concern is safety.”

Dixon said he was worried about high winds more than heavy rains that are to be dumped on much of the state. The athletic director also said the state Highway Patrol will probably be helping out on the coast and would not be available to handle the traffic at the game.
