“Rain Man” finally reached the top of the Billboard magazine rental chart. It took three weeks to hit No. 1--a snail’s pace for a blockbuster that grossed more than $170 million in theaters. The sun set on “Tequila Sunrise,” which had been the No. 1 rental for the last few weeks. “Sunrise” slipped to No. 3. “Cousins,” starring Ted Danson and Isabella Rossellini, entered the chart at No. 15. This romantic comedy, which did decent box-office business ($21.8 million), could make the rental Top 10.

* One of the hottest holiday titles will be “The Land Before Time,” the feature-length cartoon about young dinosaurs learning to cope without parents in those wild prehistoric days. A box-office hit that grossed $46 million, it’s expected to be second only to “Bambi” in the lucrative Christmas kid-vid market. It debuted on the rental chart at No. 35, but it won’t be a huge rental item. Instead, parents will be buying “Land,” which is priced--before heavy discounting--at $24.95.
