* Interns at the San Fernando Valley Child Guidance Clinic, to show their gratitude for the experience they have gained, hosted a fashion show and lunch July 30 at the Airport Hilton, netting more than $5,000. Proceeds from “LA by Design” were used to refurnish and refurbish the clinic.

* A confraternity of Filipino hairdressers in Los Angeles, in an effort to revitalize the spirit of unity among themselves, presented their first dinner-dance fund-raiser on Sept. 9 at the Biltmore Hotel. Proceeds of $1,000 will go to All Saints AIDS Service Center in Pasadena.

* Sojourn, Shelter for Battered Women and Their Children, held its 1989 dinner-dance and silent auction fund-raiser Sept. 9 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, netting $100,000. The money will permit the shelter to house more victims of domestic violence and provide children with alternative role models. Eileen Halpert and Hermine Harmon were co-chairwomen.

* Athletes & Entertainers for Kids (a national nonprofit children’s service group committed to brightening youngsters’ lives) hosted a Polynesian Paradise Luau Sept. 9. Efrem Harkham, owner of the Bel-Air Summit Hotel, underwrote the evening event at which 250 ill and underprivileged children were dined and entertained. Roger Mosely was celebrity guest.

* The Jewish National Fund, Southern California Region, raised more than $75,000 at its Sept. 10 luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Diana Kind, mother of Barbra Streisand, received the Keren Dorot Family Fund Award. Kind has been a supporter of more than 20 nonprofit groups. Proceeds will be used to continue to improve the quality of life in Israel by providing summer camps to needy children, building national monuments and tourist attractions and furnishing recreational sites.

* The Homewares Club of Southern California held its first Hall of Fame Awards Dinner Sept. 12 at the Biltmore Hotel. Inductees were: Ken Crosby, senior vice president, director of buying, merchandise, sales and advertising, Thrifty Corp.; Tim Snee, vice president, general merchandise division of Ralphs Grocery Co.; Ted Slavin, CEO, co-founder and owner of U. S. Sales Corp.; and Ron Goldman, president, co-founder and owner of U. S. Sales Corp. Proceeds of $30,000 will benefit Spastic Children’s League and Alzheimer’s Assn. Jeff Michel and Leslie Borgen were co-chairs.

* The benefit premiere of “King of Hearts,” Sept. 15 at the Tiffany Theater netted $1,000 to benefit Camp Dream Street, a camp for children with life-threatening blood disorders.

* The Diabetes Center Assn. Monty Hall/Big 5 Sporting Goods Tennis Tournament held Sept. 15-17 at the Playboy Mansion netted more than $400,000 to benefit Cedar-Sinai’s Alfred J. Firestein Diabetes Program. Proceeds will be used to continue to study the causes of diabetes, develop an artificial pancreas, safely liberalize patients’ diets and continue work of the Outpatient Training and Education Center. Bruce Konheim and Patty Liberman were co-chairs.
