College Roundup : Rabbitt Leads Irvine Women to Third at UC Riverside Cross-Country Meet

Paced by junior Buffy Rabbitt, the UC Irvine women’s cross-country team finished third at the UC Riverside Invitational Saturday.
Rabbitt finished second individually with a time of 17 minutes 18 seconds on the 5,000-meter course. Darcy Arreola of Cal State Northridge was first with a time of 17:13.
Irvine had two other top 10 finishers in the 10-team race: Reyna Cervantes finished sixth and Roberta Moronez finished seventh with identical times of 18:08.
Irvine’s B team in the men’s division finished fifth. Dan Galdino was Irvine’s top runner, finishing 25th with a time of 25:38 on the 8,000-meter course.
At the New Mexico State golf classic in Las Cruces, N.M., Irvine is 16th after 36 holes.
Texas Christian’s Mark Massengale is the individual leader with a four-under par 140 and Irvine’s Mark Wilson and Lyle Archer are tied for 28th at 149.
In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s soccer:
Southern California College 1, Fresno Pacific 0--Robert Hatings scored 25 minutes into the second half to lead host SCC (2-0, 1-0) in its conference opener.
In women’s soccer:
UC Irvine 2, United States International 1--UC Irvine’s (2-6-2) Katie Krall (cq) scored 20 minutes into the second half to tie the match at 1-1, and Kacky Ovrum scored the winner 10 minutes later.
In Golden State Athletic Conference volleyball:
Southern California College 3, Azusa Pacific 2--Heather Frewin had 20 kills to lead visiting SCC to a 16-14, 12-15, 13-15, 15-7, 15-7 victory., over Azusa Pacific. Krista Hoover had nine kills for SCC, which improved to 7-8 overall and 1-3 in conference. SCC setter Kathy Westfall had eight kills and 13 digs.
