A 33-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver in Santa Ana on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The victim, a Santa Ana man whose name was being withheld pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:45 p.m. accident on 17th Street just west of Fairview Street.
The driver of the car that hit him, Willie Hudson, 36, of Santa Ana, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and taken to the Santa Ana City Jail, Police Sgt. Bob Clark said.
Clark said the man who was killed was pedaling his bike west on 17th, along the north curb, when Hudson’s subcompact car--also headed west--struck him from the rear. The victim was thrown 80 feet into the street, Clark said.
