Newport Beach : Fifth Suspect Arrested in Balboa Gun Death

A fifth suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a young man at a party on West Balboa Boulevard, Newport Beach police said Monday.

The suspect, Zependa Renaldo, 20, was arrested at his home in Long Beach without incident Monday and was being held in the Newport Beach city jail pending arraignment Wednesday, police said.

John Fahey, 21, of Balboa, was found dead about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, lying in the street in the 1300 block of West Balboa. He had been beaten and shot. Four suspects, between the ages of 17 and 24, were arrested in a car later that night in front of Grillo’s Restaurant at Balboa Boulevard and 28th Street. Witnesses at the scene had given police a description of the car that had left the scene. Two of those suspects were from Long Beach, and the others were from San Pedro and Carson.

As of Monday evening, police still had not released any information about a motive for the attack.
