Lanny Wadkins posted an eight-under-par 62 early in the day and then saw it matched by Mark Wiebe and Tom Sieckmann Thursday in the first round of the Texas Open golf tournament.

Attacking Oak Hills Country Club, Wadkins dropped a 12-foot birdie putt on his final hole to match the course record.

The three players, each seeking his first title of 1989, were one shot ahead of Dan Forsman.
