HOTELS/TOURISM : Passenger Traffic Up 2.6% in August From 1988 Rate Despite Fewer Flights
Airline passenger traffic at John Wayne Airport increased 2.6% in August compared to the same month last year. For the month, there were 432,646 boardings and deplanements at the Orange County airport, compared to 421,788 in August, 1988.
The passenger traffic was up despite a 7.2% decline in commercial airline flight operations--takeoffs and landings. Commuter airline operations rose 42.1% over August, 1988.
Total aircraft operations declined 6.4% last month to 49,087, compared to the same period last year, when takeoffs and landings totaled 52,418.
General aviation activity, which accounted for 83.7% of the total aircraft operations last month, slid 7.5% when compared to August, 1988.
