Grants totaling $1,849,330 have been awarded to 32 local programs dealing with such problems as AIDS, youth delinquency, adult literacy and affordable housing, the Los Angeles office of United Way said Friday.

The special grants, awarded by the Discretionary Fund Distribution Committee, are part of $62 million that United Way allocated this week to 350 health and human service charities.

The largest share of the special grants--totaling $688,183--went to health-related programs, with nearly half of that going to six AIDS-related programs, bringing to nearly $1 million the amount of money allocated to AIDS programs since October.

El Centro Human Services Corp. received $92,500 to develop a program addressing the need for affordable housing in East Los Angeles.
