Struggles Continue for Harbor College

The Harbor College football program continued to struggle Saturday night in a 22-0 Western State Conference loss to host Los Angeles Valley College.

It was the third consecutive loss by the Seahawks, who have not scored in their last two games. Harbor fell to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in WSC play.

Once again Harbor’s defense got a late wake-up call. The Seahawks allowed the Monarchs to march down the field 64 yards in nine plays for a score on Valley’s first possession of the game. LaMonte Simmons ended the drive by taking the ball into the end zone from 10 yards out.

The Seahawk offense also got off to a slow start and never really got on track. After three plays on its first possession, Harbor went back into punt formation on third down at its own 40. The ball was snapped over the head of punter Jose Rocha and rolled all the way into the end zone. Kevin Carmichael of Valley recovered the ball for the score and after a two-point conversion the Seahawks trailed 15-0.

Valley’s offense moved the ball fairly easily but the Seahawk defense toughened and kept the Monarchs out of the end zone for the remainder of the first half. After a punt by Rocha was downed on the Valley one-yard line, the Seahawk defense came up with a big play, recovering a Monarch fumble at the seven. The offense however could not punch the ball into the end zone and possession went over to Valley.

Valley’s final score came in the fourth quarter when the Monarchs drove 69-yards in 12 plays. Donald Dozier capped the drive on a three-yard-run.
