LOCAL : Garden Grove Pedestrian Hit, Dies
An elderly pedestrian killed when hit by a car as he attempted to cross a busy Garden Grove street was identified today as William Unger, 76.
Unger had just left a bar in the neighborhood Sunday night when he tried to cross the westbound lanes of Westminster Avenue near Lake Street. The driver of one car swerved sharply to avoid striking Unger. Another driver, however, could not take evasive action fast enough and his car struck the pedestrian, according to officers.
Unger was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. at Garden Grove Medical Center, about a half hour after the accident. Police said today the driver of the car that hit Unger was not cited.
