Beginning today, The Times Orange County Edition is changing several aspects of its format and increasing its Orange County news report. The changes are aimed at presenting a better-organized newspaper, giving easier access to The Times’ comprehensive coverage and adding more county and community news in Orange County.
Orange County readers will see a new, front-page Orange County Newswatch on weekdays. It is a newsletter that outlines what people in the county are talking about and how news and trends from around the world and around the county affect readers. Also:
More Orange County news appears on the front page and throughout all sections of the paper.
An Orange County section filled with county news and comment features two special pages with specific community news.
Orange County developments covered throughout the paper are spotlighted in the Highlights column on each section front.
An Orange County column by Dianne Klein will appear on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
In addition, there are these format changes:
Highlights, a column on the front of each daily section except main news, summarizes what is inside.
Sections are lettered. The front news section is the A section.
Column One on this page has a new look that includes an overview of the story.
The Top of Today’s News on A2 has been designed to spotlight the most important news from across the paper in summary form.
Headlines, in many cases, now have overview subheads that provide further explanation about the accompanying story.
The Times invites readers to comment on the changes by calling 1 (800) 678-0105. The line will operate from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Or write to: “Format Changes,” Times Orange County Edition, 1375 Sunflower Ave., Costa Mesa, Calif. 92626.
