SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Home Improvement Grants Available

Share

Low-income residents of San Juan Capistrano will have an opportunity to request federal funding for home improvements in a public meeting this evening at City Hall.

The 7:30 p.m. meeting of the Community Development Block Grant Committee will determine which projects are recommended to the City Council for grant money applications. The council will consider the recommendations at a Nov. 7 public hearing.

“We’re getting away from targeting the funds to certain areas and are opening them up to anyone eligible who lives in the city,” said Brian Fisk, community development assistant. Past community development block grant monies have gone to residents in mobile home parks and to residents in the Los Rios Street Historic District.

The maximum allowable income for a single-person household to qualify for the grants is $22,700. In a two-person household, the cutoff is $25,900, and in a four-person household, it is $32,400, Fisk said.

For the second consecutive year, city officials are seeking block grant funding to remodel a cluster of former fire station buildings housing its Community Services Department. The buildings on La Matanza Street are leased from the county. City officials were denied the grant last year, Fisk said.

The San Juan Capistrano City Hall is at 32400 Paseo Adelanto.
