COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Women Win Meet at Santa Barbara

Maricela Benavidez led the Orange Coast College women’s cross-country team to a one-point victory on Saturday in the Santa Barbara Invitational. Orange Coast won with 43 points, followed by Bakersfield with 44 and Grossmont with 76.

Grossmont won the men’s division with 26 points. Ventura was second with 48 points and Orange Coast was third with 81.

Benavidez ran the three-mile course in 18:06. Michele Weaver of Orange Coast finished ninth overall in 19:48, followed by teammates Chelsea Seibert (12th), Lisa Rutkowski (14th)) and Jill Hufford (15th).

Orange Coast’s top men’s finisher was Joel Hunt, 10th overall, who finished the four-mile course in 21:45.

In nonconference water polo:

Golden West 18, UC San Diego JV 3--Steve Kidder had five goals to lead Golden West (20-2) at UC San Diego.
