Geoff Bodine took advantage of a last-lap crash between leaders Dale Earnhardt and Ricky Rudd to win the Holly Farms 400 NASCAR race at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway.
Earnhardt was trying to hold off Rudd when Rudd, trying to pass, hit the left rear quarter panel of Earnhardt’s car, sending both cars into the retaining wall between turns one and two.
Bodine avoided the wreck and won for the first time since June, 1988, at Pocono. He led only on the final lap.
Earnhardt, who entered the race 35 points behind Rusty Wallace in the Winston Cup standings, finished 10th, behind Rudd.
