Fires Burn 250 Acres on Base

Two brush fires blackened at least 250 acres of Camp Pendleton Wednesday, a Marine spokesman said.
The first fire was reported at 11:15 a.m. in San Mateo Canyon and burned 200 acres in the northern part of the base and a portion of the Cleveland National Forest, said the spokesman.
The second fire broke out at about 4:30 p.m. and had burned about 50 acres near the Camp Horno area of Camp Pendleton close to San Clemente.
No one was injured in either blaze, and officials don’t know how the fires were ignited. A Marine spokesman said late Wednesday night that firefighters were still fighting both blazes.
