Santa Monica : Beteta Aims at Hayden Seat

Fred Beteta, a 15-year-incumbent on the Santa Monica College District board, said he will not seek reelection to a fifth term next year, but instead will attempt to unseat Assemblyman Tom Hayden (D-Santa Monica) in the race for the 44th Assembly District.

Beteta, a Santa Monica Republican, will first have to win the June GOP primary. Gloria Stout of Pacific Palisades is among those to express interest in seeking the Republican nomination.

“I think the Democratic Party has gotten away from the people; it has moved too far to the left,” said Beteta, a retired aerospace engineer. “I intend to bring it back.”
