FALL SPORTS ROUNDUP : CSUN Bounces Back at USIU, Wins in 5 Games

Visiting Cal State Northridge rebounded from a four-game loss to Chapman on Tuesday with a 15-10, 4-15, 15-1, 11-15, 15-12 victory over USIU on Friday.

Middle blocker Kathleen Dixon and setter Allison Wool led Northridge (13-9).

The Lady Matadors, the 11th-ranked team in the NCAA Division II, will play at UC San Diego tonight.

In other volleyball matches:

Pierce d. West L. A., 15-2, 15-8, 6-15, 15-3--Carina Sailer had nine kills and seven service aces and teammate Andrea Banducci had eight kills and four aces for host Pierce in the Western State Conference match.

The win was the fifth in a row for Pierce (11-1, 10-1 in conference play).

The Master’s d. Cal Lutheran, 15-6, 15-3, 9-15, 15-10--Teresa Stanley led Master’s (18-20) with 10 kills, while Jen Larson topped Cal Lutheran (0-18) with nine.

HIGH SCHOOL WATER POLO

Harvard 10, St. John Bosco 5--Freshman Jim Toring and senior Shane Loomis each scored three goals for visiting Harvard (19-4, 8-0) in the Del Rey League match.

Antonio Gomez (seven saves) and John Cotter (eight saves) alternated at goalie for the Saracens.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Mt. San Antonio Invitational--Sophomore J. J. Castney of Oak Park clocked 16 minutes, 23 seconds over the three-mile course to place fifth in the small-schools sweepstakes race. Oak Park finished 12th in team standings with 257 points.

Western Conference Mini-Meet--Ventura’s Jamie Galindo ran the four-mile course at Arroyo Verde Park in 21 minutes, 46 seconds as the Raiders won with 46 points and placed three runners among the top 10. Glendale (49) placed second and Moorpark (77) finished third.

Lori Montoya of Ventura, with a strong surge in the last 1,000 meters, won the women’s event in 22.43.
