A young woman was dragged to her death from a car early Saturday during an argument with her boyfriend, police said.
When the woman, 18, tried to reach from outside the car for her purse inside her boyfriend's car, he backed up at a high rate of speed, according to police. She was dragged along while clinging to the driver's side window and was then run over, Santa Ana Police Lt. Earl Porter said.
Porter said the woman's name was not being released because her relatives had not been notified. He declined to release the suspect's name in order to keep the name of the victim secret.
The incident occurred about 2 a.m. in the 1600 block of East 1st Street when the woman had stepped out of the car to make a phone call, then returned to retrieve the purse. The driver, 24, was being held on suspicion of murder in Orange County Jail.
