Two robbers, one brandishing an automatic handgun, held up a restaurant in the MainPlace shopping mall and then shot at a security guard who tried to stop them, police said Sunday.
The two robbed Boardwalk Fries in the mall, on the 2800 block of North Main Street, about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, said Police Sgt. John Dittus. Mall security guard Darren Cole chased the two men into the parking lot, where one of them turned and fired at Cole several times and missed, Dittus said.
Another guard, James Smith, spotted the robbers getting away in a small black pickup truck and chased them to Culver Avenue and Main Street in Orange, where they abandoned the truck and fled.
