COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West Volleyball Sweeps On

Jeni Murrell had eight kills to lead Golden West College to a 15-8, 15-6, 15-3 sweep of Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference match Wednesday at Golden West.

Stacia Allen added 23 assists for first-place Golden West (9-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play).

Golden West has not lost a conference game this season and has won 36 consecutive conference matches over the past four years. Fullerton is 7-3, 4-2.

In other Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball matches:

Saddleback 3, Orange Coast 0--Cyndi Rhone had 14 kills to lead host Saddleback (10-1, 5-1) to a 15-2, 15-8, 15-4 sweep. OCC is 2-9, 2-4.

Cypress 3, Rancho Santiago 0--Kari Calliham had nine kills for host Cypress (1-5, 4-8) in a 15-7, 15-12, 15-12 sweep. Rancho Santiago is 0-6, 0-11.

In South Coast Conference wrestling:

Rancho Santiago 33, Golden West 8--Bret Fry of Rancho Santiago pinned Brad Woodberry of Golden West at 142 pounds to lead the visiting Dons. Mark Aguirre of Rancho Santiago pinned Russ Corbin at 177 pounds.

Eric Legarreta (118 pounds) and Phil Meyers (190 pounds) won for Golden West.

In Western State Conference wrestling:

Cypress 28, Rio Hondo 12--Host Cypress improved to 6-2, 2-0. Sam Lopez won, 15-0, in the 126-pound class. In the 190-pound class, Ken Stegall pinned Tony Chopa in one minute 20 seconds.
