SACRAMENTO — The Kings have reached contract agreements with free agent Wayman Tisdale and Pervis Ellison, the National Basketball Assn.’s No. 1 draft pick, after almost four months of talks.
Team officials said they reached the agreements separately with players and their agents Wednesday and signed contracts today. Tisdale reportedly will receive about $2.4 million a year, and Ellison about $2.2 million.
Gregg Lukenbill, Kings managing general partner, said of the deal:
“It’s a big risk. If they help us win, it will be worth it. If they don’t, the franchise is going to be in trouble.”
Both players will join the club immediately, although Ellison will be temporarily sidelined when the regular season begins Nov. 3. The former Louisville center is recovering from surgery to remove bone spurs on his foot and ankle and will not be allowed to scrimmage for three more weeks.
