A North Hollywood High football player is in jail after being arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting incident at Grant High on Monday, just as the Grant football team was breaking practice at about 6:15 p.m. No one was injured.

The confrontation took place when five students from North Hollywood traveled to Grant, allegedly to seek revenge for a fight that took place at a party Friday night. As many as seven shots were fired, according to Sid Thompson, deputy superintendent for operations of the Los Angeles Unified School District.

There was no indication that the incident was gang-related, according to Sgt. Jim Flavin of Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums.

The player, a 17-year-old from Los Angeles, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Flavin said. He will be arraigned at Sylmar Juvenile Court.

North Hollywood Coach Fred Grimes said that police came to the North Hollywood campus Tuesday to arrest two students involved in the shooting, one of whom is a varsity player.

“This really won’t affect our team that much,” Grimes said.
