PGA Senior Tournament Set for Rancho Park in ’90

The Senior PGA Tour, which has not held a tournament in Los Angeles since 1986, will conduct one at Rancho Park next year.

Centinela Hospital Medical Center announced Wednesday that it will sponsor the $500,000, 54-hole tournament Oct. 28-Nov. 4, 1990.

The last time the seniors played Los Angeles, the tournament was held at MountainGate Country Club in the spring of 1986. The tournament moved to Wood Ranch in Simi Valley the next year. It is now a fall event and will be played at Ojai Valley Inn and Country Club Nov. 28-Dec. 2.

The new tournament will be played in addition to the Ojai event.

“We believe the Senior Tour will experience its most exciting year in 1990 with Lee Trevino and Jack Nicklaus joining such stars as Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Chi Chi Rodriguez,” said Russell Stromberg, Centinela president. “We are happy to be a part of it.”

Centinela, which sponsored a women’s pro tournament at Rancho last spring, is the official hospital and research center for the regular and senior PGA tours.
