NHL ROUNDUP : Turgeon Plays Key Role in Sabres’ 6-5 Win

Pierre Turgeon assisted on the tying goal in the last minute of regulation Friday night at Buffalo, then scored at 2:30 of overtime to give the Sabres a 6-5 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Sabres gave up four goals in the first eight minutes and still trailed by three goals going into the last period.

Mike Foligno scored early in the third period, but only 3:18 remained in regulation when Rick Vaive brought the Sabres within one. Foligno’s second goal of the period at 19:01 sent the game into overtime.

New York Islanders 5, New York Rangers 5--With a three-goal lead going into the final period, the Islanders were in a strong position to hand the Rangers their first loss at home this season.

But the Rangers rallied to get the tie and are 4-0-3 on home ice.

In 2 1/2 minutes, the Rangers had goals from Carey Wilson and Tomas Sandstrom, and with 5:34 left, rookie defenseman Miljoslav Horava tied it with his first NHL goal.

Vancouver 5, Calgary 5--The Flames needed goals by Sergei Makarov and Theoren Fleury in the final five minutes of regulation at Calgary to get the tie.

Fleury’s tying goal came with only three seconds left.
