More than 100 city employees participated in a countywide earthquake drill beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Pasadena’s earthquake scenario called for 126 deaths, 1,500 injuries and the collapse of the Green Hotel, Pasadena Manor, the Don Benito Elementary School, the Colorado Street Bridge and numerous buildings in Old Pasadena.

Meanwhile, the Board of Directors pledged $15,000 to the Red Cross to help replenish the organization’s emergency assistance fund in the wake of Hurricane Hugo and the Bay Area earthquake.

The board approved the pledge Tuesday after learning that the Tournament of Roses Assn. and the Chamber of Commerce may also pledge $7,500 each. The money will be donated if residents contribute a matching amount.

The board also approved the placement of an FM repeater at the city’s emergency communications site on Mirador Peak by the Caltech Amateur Radio Club. The repeater, an electronic device, will enable low-power radio signals to be broadcast in an emergency.
