Van Nuys Man Sought in Slaying of Woman

A convicted burglar was being sought Wednesday as a suspect in the beating death of a woman found in her Van Nuys apartment, Los Angeles police said.

The body of Emily Krevi, 34, was found by her brother about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the apartment in the 6900 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, Detective Jim Vojtecky said. Her brother checked the apartment after Krevi’s neighbors became concerned when newspapers piled up at her apartment door.

Vojtecky said Krevi was apparently beaten to death and there were signs of a struggle in the apartment.

It is believed that Krevi was killed sometime after Saturday, Vojtecky said. Evidence and statements from residents in Krevi’s building led investigators to suspect Donald Max Kuehn, 29, who lived in an apartment building next door, he said.

There were no signs of forced entry into Krevi’s apartment and police were unclear Wednesday how her killer entered her home.

Vojtecky declined to discuss what linked Kuehn to the slaying, but said it included witness information and physical evidence found inside Krevi’s apartment. “We have ample evidence to arrest this man,” he said.

Vojtecky said Kuehn previously was convicted of burglary but would not elaborate.

Investigators will seek a warrant charging Kuehn with murder today, Vojtecky said.
