A jobs fair for people interested in the public sector will be held Saturday at the Baldwin Hills-Crenshaw Plaza.

The event will be held on the upper and lower levels of the mall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is co-sponsored by Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, the Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles County Office of Affirmative Action Compliance and Councilwoman Ruth Galanter. Representatives from 21 county departments and 10 city departments will provide information about job openings and test dates. Skilled and unskilled positions are available.

“We’re offering the whole gamut, an array of jobs and job information,” said Deputy Greg Wilson of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Recruitment Unit.

Agencies to be represented include the county departments of children services, probation, public works and health services. The Sheriff’s Department, which has 500 job openings, and the Los Angeles Police Department will also have representatives present.

One federal agency will provide information about federal job openings and training programs for low-income people.

“There are thousands of federal jobs available and jobs for low-income people,” Wilson said.

Explorer Scouts from the Lynwood Sheriff’s Station will also be on hand to provide free fingerprinting of children brought by their parents, a valuable source in the event of an abduction, Wilson said.

Those planning to attend the fair should bring resumes to leave with recruiters.
