Fire Destroys 3 Apartments
A fire started by a cigarette destroyed three units of a three-story apartment building Saturday, authorities said.
The blaze caused $76,550 in damage. A Buena Park Fire Department spokeswoman said a firefighter suffered burns to his back fighting the blaze.
Firefighters from Los Angeles and Orange counties’ fire departments were called to assist the Buena Park department in extinguishing the blaze, which began around 8:20 a.m.
Fire dispatcher Donna Houghton said 49 firefighters prevented the blaze from spreading to other apartments. There was no further information about how the fire started or about the displaced tenants.
In a separate incident, an early-morning fire caused $15,000 in damage to the Brookhurst Avenue offices of Realty World in Huntington Beach. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the fire was deliberately set, said Capt. Kirk Campbell of the Huntington Beach Fire Department.
