A former security guard for a Torrance townhouse complex has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the strangulation death last May of a woman who was spending her first night inside a new home in the gated community.

Keith Brian Campbell, 24, was arrested Monday by Torrance police at his home in the Crenshaw District and is being held without bail at the Torrance Jail.

Police said they would seek a murder charge against Campbell in the strangulation death of Tracy Morrigan, 26. Her body was discovered May 30 by her mother, Elaine Brody of Rancho Palos Verdes, inside the townhouse in the Park Del Amo development near Sepulveda Boulevard.

Morrigan, an amateur golfer who had won several tournaments, had purchased the townhouse with money from an inheritance, police said. She moved into the complex Memorial Day and was last seen by a neighbor about 10 p.m.

Police said they arrested Campbell based on fingerprints and other “physical evidence.” They said the motive for the attack is unclear.
