San Diego officials are searching for two men seen fleeing a fire at VP Video in the 7500 block of Mesa College Drive in Kearny Mesa early Wednesday with some of their clothes on fire.
Fire investigators found a pair of charred pants, indicating that the men suffered major burns on their feet, legs and thighs, said Capt. Jeff Carle( of the Metro Arson Strike Team. “I’d be surprised to find they weren’t severely burned,” he said.
Firefighters, who extinguished the 12:24 a.m. blaze in 25 minutes, said flames shot out of the windows and onto the roof of the one-story building. Flammable liquids ignited within the store triggered an explosion heard by witnesses, fire spokesman Jon MacDonald( said.
The blaze caused about $135,000 damage to the video business and minor damage to a neighboring food store, said MacDonald. The Metro Arson Strike Team found arson to be the cause.
