BREA : Curb on Advertising Given Tentative OK

Share

An ordinance intended to improve Brea’s looks by limiting the size and flashiness of advertising signs has moved closer to becoming law with the City Council’s unanimous approval on its first reading.

The proposal, which Mayor Pro Tem Carrey J. Nelson called “not perfect by any means,” is the first revision to the city’s sign codes since the mid-1970s.

The ordinance limits the size of signs according to the size of the buildings on which they appear. It also bans all painted signs and requires that businesses have conditional use permits for any lighted signs.

“At least it gives us a basis to go forward,” Nelson said.
