Robbery may be the motive for the murder of a 50-year-old woman who was found strangled in her ransacked apartment, Los Angeles police said Friday.

The body of Bennie Creath was found shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday in her apartment in the 4000 block of Coco Avenue near Baldwin Hills, Lt. Robert Kimball said.

“Her apartment had been extensively ransacked and several items were apparently missing,” Kimball said. He added that there were no reports of witnesses seeing or hearing any suspects and no arrests have been made.

Creath lived on the first floor of the two-story, 20-unit apartment building.

“She pretty much kept to herself, nobody in the building really visited her,” said Loretha Smith, 60, a youth counselor, who also lives in the building.
