“Having Fun in Tijuana” by Sam Warren details a city that has developed into a popular place for brief vacations.

Vignettes about the people and history of the city are included, with tips on crossing the border, legal requirements, auto insurance, driving and alternate transportation. It also lists attractions, accommodations, restaurants, shopping and night life. There are plenty of good maps for side trips to nearby beach towns.

“Winter Recreation in California” offers a vast number of locations perfect for an outing--a family day in the snow, heli-skiing at Mammoth or touring in Lassen Volcanic National Park, for example. Included with many sectional maps are listings of alpine resorts, cross-country and Nordic skiing, even snowmobile and “sno-park” areas.

The guide details important facts on such subjects as terrain, trails, slopes, lessons and accommodations. More than 29 phone numbers are listed for 24-hour highway and weather conditions. Included are excellent suggestions for winter driving and health and safety matters.
