Khomeini Son Gets Position on Iran’s Top Security Body
Ahmed Khomeini, an outspoken radical and son of Iran’s late supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, was appointed Monday to the country’s top defense and security policy-making body.
Tehran Radio said Iran’s spiritual leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, named Khomeini, 42, as one of his two personal representatives on the National Security Council.
It is the first official post for Khomeini, a clergyman who built a reputation as his father’s chief aide and personal secretary from the 1979 Islamic revolution to the elder Khomeini’s death last June.
Ahmed is looked upon by anti-Western radicals as a rallying symbol in the post-Khomeini era, being dominated by the more pragmatic President Hashemi Rafsanjani.
