Parolee Pleads Not Guilty to Murder

A former security guard at a Torrance townhouse complex pleaded not guilty to murder Thursday in South Bay Municipal Court. Keith Brian Campbell, 24, of Los Angeles is accused of strangling a woman on the day she moved into the complex last May, and faces the death penalty.

Campbell had been hired to patrol the Chatelaine townhouse project, a unit of the massive Park Del Amo, despite the fact that he had recently been paroled from state prison after serving four years of a seven-year sentence for assault with a deadly weapon.

He is scheduled to return to court Monday. Authorities have charged that Campbell murdered Tracy Morrigan, 26, just hours after she had moved into the development off Sepulveda Boulevard. Torrance police said they used fingerprints and other evidence to link Campbell to the crime.
