SANTA ANA : Gunshots Wound Man Aiding Woman
A Costa Mesa man was in serious condition at a hospital Thursday after being shot while interceding for a woman during an incident in front of a Santa Ana convenience store, police said.
Danny Aranda, 30, was shot by a man who pulled a pistol as the two were fighting, Police Lt. Robert Helton said. The fight erupted about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday after Aranda interceded on behalf of a woman who was being harassed by the man in front of the Circle K convenience store at McFadden Avenue and Flower Street.
Aranda was subduing the man when the man pulled a gun and started shooting, Helton said. Aranda was hit twice, in the groin and buttocks, but managed to flee across the street, where he hid behind a parked car.
The short, stocky gunman ran off before police and paramedics arrived. Aranda was reported in serious condition at United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana.
