D’Abo’s Wonder Years

British-born Olivia d’Abo, the hippie-ish sister on TV’s “The Wonder Years,” attributes her keen sense of mimicry to father Mike, who once fronted the pop group Manfred Mann. The endearingly bucktoothed actress just seems to effortlessly fall into whatever dialect is needed at the moment.

“I’ve also picked up the body language of America,” says d’Abo, who at 20 carries a bio that someone twice her age would be proud of. “It’s much more laid back. It’s not as conservative.”

This former dweller of a Taos, N.M., commune is on a performer’s roll. Half a dozen features (albeit mostly forgettable ones), a pair of TV movies, numerous sitcom appearances and an HBO special.

“I feel very lucky. I feel very privileged. And I think that one tends to forget how lucky you are,” says d’Abo, sinking into one of the chairs of her Mulholland Drive home, which is shared with actress/cousin/ex-Bond girl Maryam. “I stop to hear myself complain sometimes, and I have to say ‘Livvy, really!’ ”

D’Abo is tied to “Wonder Years” for four more seasons, provided the show remains Nielsens-friendly. This obligation will not, however, impede the ivory-tinkling actress’s desire to add a hit record to her bulging resume. She wants to join ranks with the legion of actors-turned-pop-star-wannabees.

“I want to be known more as an artist than a ‘flash in the pan,’ ” declares d’Abo. “And I’m not going to do that ‘teen’ thing that’s going on right now.”

Meaning that Tiffany, Debbie Gibson thing? “You said it, I didn’t,” d’Abo laughs.
