A 31-year-old Malibu woman who admitted killing a highway worker as she drove under the influence of alcohol was sentenced Friday in Ventura Superior Court to two years in prison.

Lyzah Trost, who pleaded guilty Oct. 12 to a charge of vehicular manslaughter aggravated by driving under the influence, faced a maximum sentence of four years when she appeared before Judge Lawrence Storch, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Joseph R. Buckalew. Relatives of the victim, 27-year-old David Ewing, had asked the judge to give Trost the maximum sentence.

Trost struck and killed Ewing on April 5 after drinking with colleagues at the Thousand Oaks restaurant where she worked as a cook and driving off despite their protests, according to authorities.

The Ventura County district attorney’s office later accused the security chief of the eatery, Reuben’s Restaurant, of hindering its investigation. No charges resulted, however, and the matter was dropped.
