‘Cardiac Egg’ Recipe Wins $2,500

Because of her innovative ways of preparing eggs, Orange Coast College culinary arts student Diana Kreinbring won the first-place prize of $2,500 in the Smart Egg Contest sponsored by the California Egg Commission.

Kreinbring, a member of a number of gourmet clubs and the Orange County Wine Society, called her winning entry “The Cardiac Egg,” utilizing the whites of eggs which she said are both cholesterol-free and high in protein.

Her wining egg recipe is a Mexican appetizer that is made by using the whites of three hard-boiled eggs, vegetarian refried beans, tofu, yogurt, mustard and salsa.

The Huntington Beach resident will be a member of the Orange Coast College squad that travels next spring to Singapore for the Culinary Olympics. She said her prize money will pay for her husband’s fare.

University High of Irvine and Saddleback High of Santa Ana tied for first place in the Student Congress team debate sweepstakes at the recent Orange County Speech League novice tournament that drew 202 speakers.

First place in school debate was won by El Toro High and first place in individual speaking went to Irvine High.

Six Boy Scouts from Troop 670 of the Orange Frontier District were awarded their Eagle rank at a Court of Honor at Cypress High School. The troop was chartered by Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Cypress.

The new Eagle Scouts are Eddie Morris, Shane Davis, Mike Krowel, Bryce Binger, Nathan Baesel, all students at Buena Park High School, and Christopher Walters, who attends Cypress High.

Congratulatory messages to each Scout from President Bush and Gov. George Deukmejian were read at the ceremony and each boy received a U.S. flag that was flown over the Nation’s capitol.

DeRevere Partnership, a Newport Beach architectural firm, won a first-place award for its design of the McDonnell Douglas Huntington Beach office tower in a recent contest of the Orange County chapter of the National Assn. of Industrial Office Parks Design/Development.

Capistrano Valley High School senior Jennifer Nagurski, who won national recognition in the recent essay contest of the National Council of Teachers of English, will have some of her selected writings placed in a booklet and distributed to colleges nationwide.

More than 3,000 juniors were nominated last year for the achievement award in writing, but only 1% of the entries received an honor.

Dieter Kutz, a Cal State Long Beach freshman, will be presented his Boy Scout Eagle rank at a Court of Honor at 3 p.m. Sunday at Newport Harbor Lutheran Church in Newport Beach.

The Costa Mesa resident removed graffiti from walls of Costa Mesa High School and repainted them as part of his Eagle Scout project. He also picked up litter from the school grounds and cleaned abandoned lockers.

Tustin resident Alan Friedman has been appointed a scoring judge for the Orange County Mock Trial competition in 48 Orange County High Schools starting Monday.

The Orange County competition is the largest in California and second largest in the United States. The event includes 115 mock trials over eight rounds of competition that will end Dec. 12. Friedman is an associate attorney at Lobel Winthrop & Broker in Irvine.
