From Times staff and wire service reports

The driver of a blue mini-van shot at a motorist today on the Antelope Valley Freeway, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

James Garcia, 25, of Newhall told deputies that he was driving north in the fast lane of the freeway at about 9:45 a.m. when the van pulled up behind him and flashed its lights, said Sgt. Michael Watner.

Garcia changed lanes, but the van chased him for several miles, Watner said. The driver of the van then pulled up alongside of Garcia and fired one round from a shotgun, he said.

Garcia was treated by paramedics for minor injuries caused by shattered glass from the shotgun blast, Watner said. Authorities were seeking the driver of the van, who was described as a light-skinned black man.
