Masters champion Nick Faldo of England has resigned his PGA Tour membership, the Associated Press learned today.

Faldo’s resignation came after Masters champion Bernhard Langer of West Germany said Sunday in Thousand Oaks that he is resigning his tour membership because of the PGA’s requirement that members enter 15 tour events each year. (See Mike Downey column, C3.)

A tour source, who asked his name not be used, confirmed that the two had informed tour headquarters of their decisions and will play a restricted American schedule in 1990.

Both players applied for non-member status for next year, which will allow them to compete in the Masters, U.S. Open, PGA, as many as five other American tournaments and the World Series of Golf, if eligible.

They will not be eligible for reinstatement on the American tour for five years.

Faldo, a former British Open champion and winner of four European titles this year, played in 16 American tour events this season. Langer played in 14.
