Santa Clarita has hired Mark Scott, the director of environmental services in Beverly Hills, as the director of its Department of Community Services, City Manager George Caravalho announced Tuesday.

Scott will replace Kyle Kollar, who resigned as community development director in July to join Kaufman and Broad, a housing construction firm. Scott worked eight years in Beverly Hills. He has a bachelor’s of arts degree in public administration from Cal State Fresno and a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University. He will begin work Jan. 2.

Scott will oversee the preparation of Santa Clarita’s general plan, the planning document that will guide development in the new city. He will oversee code enforcement and efforts to redevelop dilapidated neighborhoods. The city received more than 50 applications for the post.
