CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : RIVERSIDE COUNTY : 830 Acres Burned in Hidden Valley Fire

A wind-driven fire that briefly caused evacuations in the Norco and Mira Loma areas was controlled after burning about 830 acres in Riverside County. At its height, the blaze, dubbed the Hidden Valley fire, raged through dense thickets of brush and bamboo in the Santa Ana River bottom. Nearly 300 firefighters battled the fire at one point. The blaze destroyed an outbuilding and caused $3,000 to the roof of a home, fire officials said.
